Clemson guard Hammadi Diop was selected No. 1 overall by Charlotte FC in Wednesday’s MLS Super Draft.

Salt Bae: FIFA’s Response to Final World Cup Action

FIFA is investigating how celebrity chef “Salt Bae” got onto the pitch after last weekend’s 2022 World Cup final between Argentina and France.

‘Salt Bae’ gatecrashed Argentina’s World Cup celebrations

The restaurateur is known for his bizarre salt-sprinkling techniques and outrageously expensive food – even steaks in gold leaf, which appeared on the pitch after the Argentine player’s win.

He, whose real name is Nusret Gokche, is pictured with the newly crowned World Cup winner and has come under heavy criticism for his behavior in recent days.

Videos posted on social media appeared to show some Argentine players uncomfortable with his presence. In one exchange, Gokche appeared to be trying to speak to Lionel Messi, who appeared to want to move away from him.

In video clips posted online, Gokche was also seen holding and kissing the World Cup trophy, even taking it away from some Argentine players.

FIFA rules effectively state that only World Cup winners and heads of state are allowed to touch the World Cup trophy during the closing ceremony celebrations.

The world governing body also confirmed to Sky Sports News that “Salt Bae” was not allowed to play despite wearing some kind of identification on a lanyard around his neck.

A statement issued by FIFA read: “Following a review, FIFA has been determining how individuals gained improper access to the pitch following the closing ceremony at the Lusail Stadium on December 18. Appropriate internal action will be taken .”

A historic video has since surfaced showing FIFA president Gianni Infantino receiving the “Salt Bae” treatment at one of his restaurants. But it is thought there are no commercial or official ties that would allow Gokce to appear in his region after Sunday’s final.

It’s even believed that Infantino unfollowed “Salt Bae” on Instagram.
